Prayer Shawl Ministry

Do you enjoy knitting or crocheting? Would you like to use those skills for outreach to the congregation and community? Or do you know someone who is ill or distressed and needs comfort? Gilead Church is offering a way for you to use your skills to offer comfort by making or giving away prayer shawls through the prayer Shawl Ministry at Gilead.

What is a prayer shawl?
A prayer shawl is a shawl or small blanket made to wrap the receiver in God’s unconditional love. A prayer shawl is given as a gift to provide support in a time of stress, comfort at a time of loss, joy at a time of celebration, or for many other reasons.

Why is it called a Prayer Shawl?
Many prayers are offered for the one who will receive the shawl. The shawl maker prays for the recipient before working on the shawl, while working on the shawl, and upon its completion.

What is the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Gilead?
Anyone who enjoys knitting or crocheting is welcome to make prayer shawls to be given by Gilead Presbyterian Church. May we make a prayer shawl to comfort someone you know?
